Excel and Word documents extremely slow to open when Printer Spooler Service is running

Hi All,

I have a user who just started having this problem today. I narrowed it down
to her Print Spooler. When it is open, Excel and Word documents take over 2
minutes to open. I checked the C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS directory
and it is empty. If the Print Spooler process is not started, Word and Excel
open normally. I did an exhaustive search on Google and could not find any
solutions. What should I do?

Thanks,

GT

Hi Bob-

I found that if the default printer is set to a Lexmark T644, documents and
XLS files will take a long time to load. If I set the default to a different
printer, the programs load normally. I uninstalled and reinstalled the T644
drivers but that did not resolve the problem. Additionally if I open the
T644 and do a test print, it prints no problem at all. So now that I've
narrowed it down to that printer, I'll try Lexmark support and see if they
know what to do.

Thanks for your help,

GT
