Excel and Word take a long time to open

I was sent a file, thru email, by one of our clients and
opened it. It was an excel file that contained images and
some notations on the images. Now both computers that the
file was opened on take a very long time to open word and
xcel. Just opening the program to a blank document takes
a long time. Closing down works fine. Anyone have any
ideas what is going on. I scanned the file with norton
and it came up fine. Any suggestions? Thanks
