Excel as a Quote Tool/Template

In a previous life (known as the PC world) I worked for companies
which created Quote programs using Excel. I now have moved from 'the
dark side' to the "enlightened side" known as the Mac world. I am
attempting to duplicate that same tool using Excel from my Office v.X
for Mac (or whatever this program is actually called!)

What we had in the past was the ability to click on a cell, and (lets
assume it was a part # cell) have a pop-up list come up from which we
could scroll down and select the Part #. At this point, the remaining
cells in that row would be populated with the 'Description', 'Model
#', 'List Price' and maybe a couple of other 'information fields.'

This information all came from another Excel sheet which simply listed
the Part #, Model #, Description, List price, etc.

I believe some tool called either a VLOOKUP or ADDRESS lookup was used
to import this information into the Quote Template. I can handle all
the formulas for pricing, discounts, net price, extended price etc. I
just can't figure out the proper reference/lookup tool to import this
data from another Excel sheet.

I've made several attempts at using this VLOOKUP and ADDRESS and I
seem to be able to get the syntax correct.. just nothing ever
'happens' ie no information gets imported.

Anyway, if anybody can explain this in basic simple terms and/or if
you've already done it and can send me a sample with a brief
explanation I would really appreciate it. I'm pretty good at looking
at the 'formulas' and figuring out how it all fits together so all I
need is that very first connection and I should be off and running.

Thanks, Steve Shelby

Data/Validation

I just can't figure out the proper reference/lookup tool to import this
data from another Excel sheet.

Look up the documentation or help for VLOOKUP. The examples given are
quite good.
