excel autoloads

when I open excel 2000 it loads random files and keeps
loading. the only way i can stop it is crl alt del end the
program. it will open one file on top of the other. it
seems to prefer to open pdf files. is this a virus?? how
do i stop excel from loading files??

Hi,

Start Excel whilst holding the shift key (thus preventing
it to open add-ins and autoload files). OK any messages
about Excel being unable to edit add-ins.

Then open Tools, Options, General and remove the entry
next to "Alternate startup file location". Excel is trying
to load all files from the directory stated there.
