Excel behaving oddly

Hi,

I have Excel 2000 running on Windows 2000 Pro SP3 machine. When I arrived
to work this morning and opened up Excel (from the executable) I received
the following series of error messages:

The file is not a recognisable file format (This is odd, as I am not
actually opening up a file, I am running the executable)

When I OK this error message, I get the following:

SYLK: The file is not a recognisable file format (at this point a workbook
called EXREG.DAT opens)

When I click on OK I get the same error message but a new workbook appears
to have been opened (OEMROM.BIN)

I click on OK again and a new workbook opens called Version.txt, although
there is no error message.

The help tells me that the file I am opening is corrupted. However, I am
not opening a file. When I do open an excel workbook, I get the same series
of messages followed by the appearance of the workbook I was trying to open.

If I look within the Window menu, I can see that there are two other files
open: NicCimIns.log and ArchiveXML.XML.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be and how I can resolve
it?

Thank you.

Glenn
