Excel can't read Works (wks)

R

reunder

I have some legacy Works files (WKS) but no Works
program. Excel won't read them! I need a convert program
from Works V3.0/4.0 to something Excel can read.

Hi reunder!

In Works, save them as Excel files.

While it's good that you don't mindlessly regurgitate entire preceding
threads, as is all too common, some context from the preceding thread is
often a VERY GOOD THING. Case in point, from the OP:

"I have some legacy Works files (WKS) but no Works program."

So, are you making the oh so terribly helpful suggestion the OP buys a copy
of Works to do this?

Hi Harlan!

And no access to Works anywhere?

But I've cleared that he can't open in Excel.

Your contribution?

Merely indirect,

as you yourself could have provided if you had thought and expended a little
effort before responding.

Hi Harlan!

Why do you insist on being so rude and objectionable to people?

Were it otherwise your undoubted skills would be so much more enjoyed
and respected.

In this case I was returning the favor. From your previous follow-up:

"Your contribution?"

How would you expect that crack to be taken? If you're not going to be
careful, expect me to point out the errors you make. If you want to
reciprocate, fine with me (that's what makes newsgroups valuable - like
threshing wheat), but be very careful that you find errors or omissions in
my posts.
Were it otherwise your undoubted skills would be so much more enjoyed
and respected.

I don't post for anyone's enjoyment other than my own, and sometimes my own
enjoyment is enhanced by pissing off someone else.

As for respect, to me what matters most is posting the best solution to
problems. If that alone doesn't secure respect, what value would there be in
the respect given for other reasons? Perhaps you're confusing respect and
appreciation.

You may have a hard time understanding this, but I don't participate in
order to be liked.

Hi Harlan!

There's no problems with your picking up errors or incomplete posts.
That is done frequently by all regulars and with very few exceptions
is done without rudeness. The exceptions usually concern you.

What is a problem to me and many others is the immaturity / rudeness /
denigratory manner of your behaviour when you do it.

"Your contribution?" in this case was pointing at your posting in
response to mine and is a case in point.

A "normal" regular response to my first post in this thread would have
been:

"If you don't have access to a computer with Works, then see the post
by Ken Wright at::"

http://google.com/[email protected]

Grow up! Or get that chip off of your shoulders! It really does you no
credit and the newsgroups no good at all for you to demonstrate your
personal /emotional / psychological inadequacies and immaturity in a
public forum.

But your undoubted skills with Excel are acknowledged.

Too damn bad. It's my preferred style. As there's no speach control here, get
used to it or hide you head in the sand. Don't matter to me which.

You failed to notice that I had already responded to the OP, though not to you,
in the thread prior to my response to you. Seems to be a common failing of yours
to ignore branches of threads in which you haven't contributed. As I had already
provided a potential solution for the OP that wouldn't have required the OP to
buy Works and that didn't condescend to assume the OP was so stupid that the OP
couldn't figure out that s/he could ask friends who had Works to borrow their
systems to convert the files, I didn't see the point of repeating the link when
responding to you. Perhaps in future I'll take into account your apparent
inability to read and/or understand entire threads when I respond to you, but
don't get your hopes up.

For the heck of it, since you don't seem to have read or understoond the like I provided before, here's a Google link maybe you can understand.

http://www.google.com/[email protected]

It seems you don't believe there's anything in threads worth reading unless
they're in branches in which you've spewed forth.
Grow up! Or get that chip off of your shoulders! It really does you no
credit and the newsgroups no good at all for you to demonstrate your

To damn bad! If you learn to admit your mistakes, I won't have to waste so much
bandwidth pointing them out to you. If you learn to read branches of threads
other than those in which you've responded, maybe there's some slight chance you
won't make as many mistakes in the future. But I'm not holding my breath.

I'll continue to post how I want to post.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my post.
The Ken Wright post pointed me to a converter program
that 'works' without needing Works - exactly what I need.
Thanks again.

Noted. I'll live in hope but not hold my breath.
