Excel Can't Save to Windows File Share

Hi Guys,

I have Mac Office 2008, and am on a windows domain, using windows 2003
SBS R2 server. I've created a file share from the windows box and
given everyone permissions. I know it works as the windows users are
using it fine. I can use the file share fine in Word/Entourage on the
mac, but when it comes to excel, and saving, I just get Disk is Full
message (which obviously it isnt as it's a new server with over 500GB
of space)

The exact message is The disk if full. Once you click OK after a short
while the message Document not saved appears.

Any ideas? the mac office software is also fully updated.

Many Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob -

I'm sorry I don't have a solution for you - mixed networks isn't my thing -
but I do request that you not repeatedly post the same issue... And using a
different identity each time doesn't help. When someone who has the
requisite knowledge to answer your question has an opportunity to do so I'm
sure they will, but not many of us deal with cross-platform networking.

Newsgroup response is anything but immediate. You need to patiently wait for
a reply, which may take anywhere from several hours to several days - some
questions, unfortunately, may never receive a reply. If the issue is
something that needs immediate resolution you'd do better to go through
established tech support channels.

That's especially true in this case since yours is an issue that goes
outside the realm of the typical end user of the software.

As Bob said, it's hit-or-miss that you'll get a question like this
answered here.

The only tiny bit of info I can add is that the "disk full" error is
used generically to mean "I can't save the file to the working
directory".

XL saves an existing file in several steps. IIRC, they're (a) write a
temp file, (b) delete the old file, (c) rename the temp file to the old
name.

If anything interferes with that process (e.g., if your users don't have
delete privileges), the process will fail and XL will report "Disk full".

Thanks for your response guys. I won't post multiple times np. This is
my first use of the group, as I could not find any other resources
besides mactopia, and they have not helped so far. I'll keep an eye on
this post, for now I'll get the guy a windows machine, as I know
permissions are correct.

Thanks again.
Rob
