Excel Cell Format for Numbers

C

Cheryl Kendrick

When I type or import a number such as the following into
Excel, it automatically converts it to a date. I do not
want this since it is a part number. This happens often
when we export reports from our ERP system. Please help.

ex:
05-20057

Thanks

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

Change the number format for the cells to Text prior to adding your
data.

I do format the cells prior to adding data, but when I add
the 05-20057 it will revert back to a data automatically.
Any other suggestions?

Cheryl

put a ' character before your number when you enter it, for example enter
that part number by typing '05-20057

This makes Excel treat it as text
