excel cells(all selected)

when I open excel and click inside a cell, and then move the mouse to another
cell..all cell inbetween are selected. It is almost like the EXT (F8)
function. I have ran a detect and repair and it still seems to not allow me
to open the sheet. the only way to get around this to this point is to close
the program and restart..
has anyone experienced this issue before ?? what to do to fix this error.

this computer is a laptop. I removed the USB mouse and the issue still
occurs, not everytime, but enough to get in the way of productivity.
Any ideas??
