When I open an Excel file that a Windows user sends me, Excel opens it under the name 'Workbook #' where # increases with each additional file I open.

Anyone?

You're opening a template. That is expected behavior.

What do you *want* to happen when you open additional copies?

Thanks for the quick response.

I'd like to open that exact copy, rather than create/open/otherwise an 'additional copy'. So, I'd hope to be able to open the file and have the name display as is I had created the file myself and opened it again at a later date.

Templates are constructed/intended for generating NEW files based on the
design of the template, so that each new file based on that template starts
off exactly the same. Once you create your new "Workbook#" save it with
whatever name you want to use then continue to work with *that* file.
