Excel Charting Engine Licensing

E

Ed Browning

Hi,

I'm developing reports for an extranet application and I want to use OWC for
the charts but I'm more than a little confused as to the licensing
restrictions for different versions.

The web server is a Win Server 2003 Standard, but does not any version of
office installed.

Do I need a version of Office for my server, and if so, which version. I
will only be using the charting engine?

Will the client requires Office installed on their own machine, if so which
version, if not, can I provide a download link from Microsoft to install a
version of OWC?

Also, I'm developing on a Win2K Prof machine with Office 2000 installed -
will this affect my application when I upload to the server, or do I need to
upgrade Office on my Dev machine?

Many thanks,
Ed.

Thank you for your response.

These are the very types of articles which are confusing me. I'm just a
simple ASP guy wanting to use charts on an extranet. I Read his article
first: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q243/0/06.asp, which
tells me I can't use OWC at all. Then these other articles tell me I can.

Microsoft Licensing has always baffled me, why do they make it so
complicated?

I've already developed the charting for the report and it works a treat, I
love it, I just don't know if I'm allowed to use it on the extranet?
