Excel: column headings

Not quite sure where to ask this, but...

I've seen this done before, and I'd like to know how it was done. I saw an
Excel workbook where the column headings don't scroll with the rest of the
data. That is, the first row of cells always stay at the top of the picture.
How do you do this?

Thanks.

(I'm using Excel 97, if that makes a difference.)

You want to freeze the panes. You do this by highlighting
the farthest cell to the left of your spreadsheet, below
the rows you want to stay in place. Click tools and then
click freeze panes. That should you.

It took me a while to work out that "freeze panes" is actually under the
"windows" menu, but hey, it works!

Thanks muchly.
