Excel column labels

[frustrated]

All of a sudden the column headers in Excel are numbers,
not letters. I have done System Restore using a date
prior to discovery of the problem & I have reinstalled the
entire MS Office suite. The problem still exists.
Formulas are impossible to create. How do I relabel the
columns to A-B-C etc.

Tools|Options

then uncheck "R1C1 reference style" on the General tab.
