Excel Column Titles

I have had a functioning spreadsheet for many months with a fixed first row
as the column titles row.

Recently the data in these cells is no longer regarded as title data by the
spreadsheet and as a result when I sort data the title line becomes
incorporated into the sort which messes things up a little.

I have tried to change this through tools, sort and then clicking the
selection 'my list has a header row' but unfortunatley this then fixes the
first 2 lines and not just the top one.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

Very grateful, Mark

Do you have *any* content at all in the row immediately above the columns
that contain your captions? Do you have any Hidden rows?

More descriptive detail - including version - would be helpful:)
