Excel - Copy - Date

I have several files I want one piece copied out of and
paste into another file. One of the fields in this piece
I am copying is a date. I highlight what I want copied,
I switch to the file I want it in. I select paste
special and transpose (because I want it horizontal
instead of vertical) and it does it, but it changes the
year of my date from 2002 to 1998. The cell format is
the same and the system date is correct. How do I fix
this so that when I paste, it copies over the correct
date?
