excel copyright

I have an editor who is wondering whether the charts
I produce with Excel might in anyway impinge on the Excel copyright.

I assume not, but wonder how I can demonstrate that.

And if you write a book using Microsoft Word, then you don't own that
copyright either? Don't use a Ticonderoga pencil in that case, because the
pencil maker will want a piece of the action.

Enough sarcasm, please don't take it personally.

Microsoft Excel is a tool, and you use it to publish your own intellectual
content. Microsoft provided the means to put your content out there, but
they had nothing to do with creating the content.
