Excel crash when using user defined chart

Hi

We have an XLUSRGAL.xls file that contains custom charts which has worked
fine for years. However on SP3 when you use a user defined custom chart ,
excel just crashes, and then try's to recover the file. The issue does not
occur on SP2. I have tried copying various files (XL8GAL) from the SP2
machine to the SP3 machine but no luck, any help welcome, pulling the last of
my hair out.

Offcie 2003 SP3, XP SP2, full admin rights, etc

I have had the same problem with Excel Spreadsheets at times that contain
macros which are stored on the network, at some point get corrupted and you
can no longer open the spreadsheet normally. Any chance the spreadsheet you
are having difficulty with is stored in some shared location on the network?

Sorry no, the files are copied down locally to the client mahine by a script.
But thanks for your help, I am going to try PSS, and also different installs
of Office 2003 to narrow down the issue.

Hi,

It seems that the excel files are damaged. If you need to repair them,
I think you can try a utility called Advanced Excel Repair. It works
rather well for my corrupt Excel xls files. Its web address is
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/ Hope this helps.

Hi Alan

The files are not corrupt they work fine on a clean build, but many thanks
for your post, PSS advise it might be down to a DLL file which I am now
investigating - will let you know what I find out.
