Excel crashes after changing font and trying to save

If I change the font and try to save, Excel crashes and autorecovers my file.
i'm using 2003 and the file format is set to 97-2003 etc. If I change the
file format to Excel worksheet (ie 2003) the problem goes away. The issue is
I need to share with other users on Office 2000. Has anyone got a fix for
this. Thanks in advance
