Excel crashes when attempting to create a macro

I am on a Macintosh G5 running Mac OSX 10.4.5 and Excel 2004 for Mac
version 11.2.

Any attempt to create a macros (either by capturing keystrokes or
editing) will crash Excel.
Any attempt to open a file which contains a macro (either with macros
enabled or macros not enabled) will crash Excel.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try, with all Office Apps closed, renaming your

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft

folder (where ~ is your home directory). Start XL and attempt to record
a macro.

Does that work?
