Excel Crashes When Copying

B

Bernie

I am running Excel 97 SR2b under Windows XP. I have a workbook that contains
8 moderately small sheets.
Lately when I attempt to cut or copy a single cell or group of cells, as
soon as I hit ctl/c or click copy from the menu, I get the message "Microsoft
Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for any
inconvenience."
Then Excel goes away, and any unsaved changes to the worksheet are lost.
There are no macros visible in the macros window.
This is a workbook that worked fine for a long time, and I cannot correlate
the problem with any Excel updates or changes to the workbook. All of my
other workbooks still work fine.
Can anyone give me some help?

Sounds like a corruption to me. Check out this page for some pointers:

Thanks for the response Jan,
I tried all of the things on your "Corrupt Files" Page except the suggestion
to save as a Web Page, which 97 doesn't support that I know of. No change in
the problem.
By the way that is a great site.
My file opens and saves OK without any messages at all until I try to cut or
copy.
I have attempted a repair to the Office 97 installation with no change in
the problem.
The workbook calculates OK in both automatic and manual, and seems to be at
normal speed.

Well, you could email the file to me so I can do the html roundtrip for you. My
email address is listed on my contact page.

Thanks!
