Help! I am using Excel 10.1.7 from Microsoft's Office X, running on a
Mac G4 PowerBook 1GHz with 1GB RAM, OS 10.2.8. I'm working on a list of
sales contacts. I included a field for email addresses, but when I type
any string of text into that column or ANY cel that includes an "@"
symbol OR is formatted as a web address (www.you.com) and exit the cel
(either hit return, click on another cel etc.) Excel immediately
crashes and I get a report from Console (included partially below).

I have tried:

· restarting the machine
· resaving the file with new name
· starting with a brand new empty workbook file
· dumping com.microsoft.Excel.plist
· fixing permissions on the disk
· running with Extensis Suitcase running
· Extensis Suitcase not running
· searching Microsoft, Google and Apple support online
· installing the latest Office X updater to v. 10.1.7
· following MS's bogus instructions to import the data into a new
worksheet as follows:

· Microsoft Excel for Mac:
1. Create a new Excel Workbook.
2. On the Insert menu, click Object.
3. Click From File.
4. Locate the workbook that you have been trying to start.
5. Click OK.
(this is bogus. it only inserts the first cel.)

Am now:
· crying in my coffee.

Has anyone ever heard of this problem??? I need to create a complete
contact database here with web addresses and email addresses. Hope I
have given enough info to help you help me!

The rest of this msg. is the first part of the crash report from
Console, if that helps.

OK! Now WORD is also crashing when I add an email address or other
automatically hyperlinked text in a document. So I guess this is an
overall Office X problem. Any ideas? I will cross post this issue to
the .mac.office group.

Thanks... heeeeelp!!!!

Here's a real long shot. I'm unable to replicate the problem on any of
the Mac's I have here but I'm not running 10.2.8.

Try changing the format of the hyperlink via the Format>Style... menu
(Word). Perhaps the fonts have gotten messed up so try changing to a
different font.

If that works (which is unlikely) it's possible that you have corrupted
fonts and when Word/Excel goes to access them to change your hyperlink
into a hyperlink style, it crashes.

Of course, the last resort is to reinstall Office.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to introduce a break in one or both axes
to cover one value that is much greater than the others. For example: if one
of the Y-axis values is 10,000 while the others are in the 500s. I would
like to introduce a break in the Y-axis scale after 600 and then have the
next value be 11,000. This way all my categories are on the same graph and
decently visible without one large value skewing the plot. I hope my
question is clear enough. I appreciate the help. Thanks!

Chart: break in axis?Amit -

If you had browsed to Google Groups and searched for "Excel chart break in
axis" (without the quotes), you would have seen many previous messages on
this topic, including a link to chart guru Jon Peltier's web site

Thanks! I didn't reinstall Office but did do a lot more system
maintenance including chucking all the font prefs hither and yon and
running Cocktail (fixes permissions and the like), and it seems to have
worked because suddenly I'm able to put email addresses back into
files. I agree, it was probably a font issue.
