Excel-custom.DIC

I have inadverdently added new a custom dictionary by
typing a word in the Add words to: box and clicking Add.
Can not find how to delete. Should only have CUSTOM.DIC
there. I now have 4 or 5 others. Can anyone help? Thank
you!

Depending on your upgrade path, I think you can have more than one. But it sure
looks like only one is used (discounting a pc shared with multiple users).

If you search for custom.dic, you can determine the last one updated by the
date. Keep that one and move the others to a nice safe spot (make a note of the
location, just in case you screw it up).

Then start MSWord.
Tools|Options|Spelling and Grammar Tab|Custom dictionaries Tab|Modify button
(delete the words you don't want)

MSOffice applications share this file.

And I guess you could actually have more than one custom.dic. (I would think if
you needed more than one, you'd use a unique name--but you don't have to.) You
could use one custom.dic to contain all your acronyms/jargon for your work
stuff.

Then another for all the family names. You may not want to commingle your
words.

Thank you Dave. I don't know why, but I have been unable
to locate custom.dic in the search. It keeps coming up
empty. Could this be something Microsoft keeps hidden?

It's not hidden in win98, but make sure you search through hidden folders and
for hidden files.

(There's an option under the search dialog. You did use the Start
Button|Find|Files and folders to search???)
