Excel Data converted in to ASCII format,please help......?

When ever i tried to open my Excel work sheet it shows under mention message

"THIS FILE IS NOT IN RECOGNIZABLE FORMAT"

and when i click on the ok button it open the file with ASCII format. Please
help me its very much important for me.
