Excel data selection

Excel spreadsheet dragging out cell selection and won't
stop. Will not allow me to click any menus, cannot stop
cell selection by ESC, Break, F8, ctrl+ESC, cannot do
anything but select cells! How is this turned on, and how
do you turn it off? HELP!!!

The "mouse wheel" click cured the problem. Very strange,
I REALLY appreciate the help!
