Excel dates and years

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I would like to type different types of dates
containing:
day, month and year or
month and year or
just year
into a column headed dates.

The problem is years are changed to a different year!
2000 changes to 1909? or 23-Jun-09?

Date
July-02
10-Mar-01
14-Mar-00
2000
2001
2003

Thanks Jane

The dates themselves need to be entered consistently in compliance with the
date formatting used. What needs to be varied is the Date Formatting applied
to the cells. Unless you have a totally inflexible, overpowering need to do
what you're describing, however, you're leading yourself into a veritable
rat's nest... Not only from the standpoint of data entry but also from the
standpoint of interpretability & comprehensibility.

Thanks for the advice. I have now changed to a new system.
I have made 3 columns

Day Month Year
22 March 2000

I am indexing items, not all have all the date info. Many have just the year or month and year.
Many Thanks
Jane

I think your new approach should work out much better. You can always
concatenate the date information by using formulas on other sheets it order
to present the dates more traditionally in any reporting you have to do.
