Excel Dates

I get automated reports with dates include. On my PC, the dates show-up correctly. On my iMac 24 the dates are well into the future. For example, 4/15/2008 shows-up as 4/15/2012.

Any ideas?

Hmmm... that's very strange. It SHOULD show up as 4/16/2012.

WinXL and MacXL use different date systems by default. WinXL uses the
1900 date system, in which 0 represents 31 December 1899, 1 represents 1
January 1900, etc. MacXL uses the 1904 date system in which 0 represents
1 January 1904.

The difference between the two systems is 1462 days (since the 1900 date
system includes an incorrect 29 February 1900).

The system used depends on the preference setting
(Preferences/Calculation/1904 Date system checkbox) in the first
workbook opened during the session. You can change the preference to
restore the dates.

Or you can convert within a workbook by adding or subtracting 1462 from
the date.

Thanks MVP! This works, but I have to do it for every workbook I open. I get these reports daily. It seems the default is 1904. I'm assuming there is some way to set the MAC system default to compensate for the PC's wrong ways :). My IT guys gave me some grief on this one ... as if the Mac doesn't work correctly ... typical!

The default Mac setting is 1904 dates. This is a workbook setting, so the
value sticks with the workbook. You could create a Mac template that has the
1904 date setting OFF.
