Excel delay in responding

Hi,

I recently patched a PC that is running Office XP with
Microsoft Patches from the Updates site. Has anyone
encountered a delay in simple functions like inserting and
deleting lines asfter installing updates?

I am having the same problem except it's with Excel &
Word 2000 and I haven't installed any patches.

When I open a file in either Word or Excel, there is at
least a 10 second delay when you perform such simple
functions as clicking on another cell or selecting text
and the function actually executes.

After the initial delay the response time "usually"
returns to normal. I also have Lotus on this machine and
it works perfectly.

This PC is on a Novell network and is running Win98 SE.
There are 6 other workstations on the network with
identical setups that work fine.

I would appreciate suggestions also.
