Excel Docs to open seperately on Taskbar ...

How do you get new Excel docs to open in their 'own'
taskbar window ( as opposed to opening as a new file in
the existing Excel task ) ? I went to Tools/Options/View
and checked Windows in Taskbar, which seemed to fix it on
other machines, but for some reason does not resolve it on
this one particular machine. This was working fine as
recently as Monday. I tried the Repair and Reinstall
options too. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ... p.s. Its Excel 2000 from an Office Pro install
w/the most recent updates.

IIRC, the problem has to do with the version of Internet Explorer you
are using and your operating system. If you are using Windows 95 or
Windows 98 and upgraded from IE 4.0 to IE 5.0 and didn't apply all
service packs in IE 4 (specifically the Windows Desktop Update) prior
to upgrading then this issue can arise. (Note this behavior will not
occur in Word 2000.)

If you need more on this issue then post back and I can look up all of
the
details. Off-hand I can not seem to find the KB article that covers
what
you need to do to correct it but I can spend more time looking for it
if
necessary. :)

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Now that you mention it, the
problem started happening (Monday) around the time when we
upgraded from IE 5.x to IE 6.1 sp1. We are using Win2K
sp4 ( also recently upgraded ) and Office 2000 ( Word,
Excel, etc... ) with all of the updates. Originally, just
checking that Windows on Taskbar fixed the problem. But
now I am at a loss. Any more info would be greatly
appreciated. ;-)

Hi Eric,

Hmmm...if you are using Windows 2000 then IE was past version 4 when
Windows 2000 was released (I think IE5) so I don't think the article I
was thinking of is applicable. Although, if the workstation an earlier
version of Windows installed then I guess it could still apply - I say
it depends on how Windows was upgraded.

In any event, I was able to find the article I was referring to
earlier:
