excel document won't open

When I try to open a certain Excel spreadsheet, Excel becomes non-responsive.
Windows recognizes this as an Excel document. How do I figure out what's
wrong? The spreadsheet has macros, and I've tried to open it with macros
disabled, but get the same result.

No error messages? Just starts to open and never finishes?

How large is the file?

Have you tried opening it while holding down the [shift] key to disable
macros? I know you said you'd tried, but I'm presuming you have Macro
security at Medium and were using the [enable] [disable] buttons?

Have you tried copying the file on the hard drive and then opening the copy?
Could be that the disk has got a corrupt sector. Other possibility is that
the file itself has just become corrupt, causing the hang during load.
