Excel documents do not display on open

When I double-click and Excel document, the program will launch but
the document is not displayed. Minimizing the window if it is
maximized or vice versa solves causes the document to show up. This
only happens when opening the document directly. It will display right
away when opened using the open command in Excel.

I am using Office 2007 Professional with Windows XP SP2.

What could be causing this problem?

I have a similar problem (and worse) with Office Pro 2003 on Windows XP SP2.
It affects all Excell and Word documents.

After double-clicking the document, it takes anywhere between 30 to 60
seconds for the application to show up, and then another 15-30 seconds for
the document to be displayed. Sometimes, the document is not display at all.
Even disabling "Real Time scan Anti-Virus" makes no difference (using AVG
Free v7.5.476 with Resident Shield deactivated).

My system is a Pentium 4 3.6GHz, 3GB DDR667, Sata II hard drive with plenty
of free space.I am looking forward to reading other's replies on the
subject.

I suspect she's trying to change a document that's been emailed to her and
she did not save it to her hard drive before editing. She's been changing a
temp copy.

The user is opening files from several different locations. Usually it
is from a network drive or local folder, but rarely from an email.

Any other possibilities?

Our computers here at my "office" are having the exact same problem.
Using Office 2007 Word documents off the hard drive work just fine but
when You open an excel Doc from the Doc Icon Excel opens but displays
nothing but finished in the bottom left corner. When I hit minimize the
doc shows up when I maximize its just fine. Its like the screen doesn't
refresh when the doc opens. Any hints? I'm supposed to be the computer
Guru here so I need an answer soon before they find out I got em all
snowed. :)
Thanks for your time
