Excel does not open documents

Maurits

Hi Pawam and Jim,
I am encountering the same problem as Pawan, except that I am not
running Vile Fault. One of my excel 2004 file 'cannot be accessed.
The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only
location. or, the server the document is stored on may not be
responding'. This happens to only one - but important! - file.
When checking and fixing the permissions in the disk first aid, I get
this report:

Bevoegdheden voor 'OS' controleren (checking permissions)
Determining correct file permissions.
We are using special permissions for the file or directory
../System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util. New permissions
are 33261
The privileges have been verified or repaired on the selected volume

Het controleren van de bevoegdheden is voltooid (checking has been
completed)

Still I cannot open the file. What can I try more? Dropping the file
on the icon in the dock won't help either.
Just as Pawan, I also have problems with some word 2004 files. When
opening a file I have to let it be converted in for instance 'text
only'. After having done that there's nothing left of my data. The
file is loaded with blocks, apples and song titles (?). Even when I
recover text I only get song titles, something I didn't save. Norton
Utilities for mac 8.0.2 says that the files have damaged resource
forks. Could this then be the same for my excel file? Strange that
Norton doesn't find that file being damaged.
What can I do to fix these damages. Norton says to delete them. How do
I get these damages? And how to prevent getting more of future
damages? (Pawan, you also have the same problems with word 2004?)

Extra data
667 MHz PowerPC G4
OS X 10.3.7
Office 2004 for mac (student), version 11.1

Thanks, Maurits
