Excel does not print sometimes

Excel 2003 with XP Pro. Default printer is local printer.

The first time I try to print to the default printer Excell acts like it is
sending the document to the printer, but it does not reach the queue. If I
change the printer to another printer and then print, it will go to that
printer. If I switch back to the default printer it will now print.

Any ideas about what is going on?
