Excel error - "Floating" cell

I have a spreadsheet that I created in Excel 2004 for Mac and then moved and edited under Excel 2008 for Mac. It's a pretty big file (around 442 rows, 50 some columns) with various formatting in different places. The most significant thing seems to be that the first column is set to repeat on each sheet. This repeating column is completely blank except for the bottom cell of each sheet (which contains, "week 1", "week 2", etc).

Whenever I scroll horizontally to the right, two blank cells appear in the same part of the screen, covering any text or highlighted areas beneath them. They "float" over the page in a way that is not aligned with the grid underneath. Also, they are clearly from the repeating column as that column is narrower than all the other columns, and the "floating" cells clearly match that size. This little bug disappears if I switch from the Page Layout view to the Normal view, but I am trying to find out how to eliminate it entirely. Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated.

Without looking at your worksheet, I don't have a clue as to what you are
describing. Try going to the Window menu and unfreezing panes. If this does
not help, let us know.
