For an knowned reason, the following message
recently started to display when clicking on
EXCEL on an Windows 2000 system.

EXCEL.exe has generated errors and
will be closed by Windows. You will
needed to restart the program. An
error log is being created.
(OK)

Attempts have been made to repair, deinstall
and reinstall Office 2000. However, the above
message still displays with trying to bring
up EXCEL.

Can anyone help?

Try clicking on Start>Run and type:
excel /unregserver
Then press enter or click OK.

Then click on Start>Run and type:
excel /regserver
Then press enter or click OK.

This will re-register excel on your system. It sometimes helps.

Now try to run Excel again.

If you get the error, try clicking on Start>Run and type:
excel /s
Then press enter or click OK.

This will start Excel in 'safe mode'; no add-ins or auto exec macros
will be run, and all settings will use defaults. It is as if it is
the first time Excel is run after installation. If your problem goes
away, it could be an add-in acting up, or a macro in the personal.xls
file. If the problem persists, it is likely one of Excel's binary
files or one of the Windows library files that Excel uses.

Good Luck!
