Excel File Corrupt - Anyone know why & how to prevent?

I have an excel document (2002) that has macros in it - there are 15 copies
of this document each being filled out by a different person however the
framework is the same for each spreadsheet (they are 'month end reports for
each of our supervisors'). Twice now the file (a different one each time)
has all of a sudden become corrupt (have had to restore backups). Does
anyone know why this might be? The file is saved on a network drive (in the
office), it's not a 'shared workbook' however there are a couple of users who
will go in one at a time to make changes.

This last time, the spreadsheet was open, then a totally different excel
file was opened...the first spreadsheet went blank and then a notification
appeared that the file is corrupt and cannot be opened (damage to file was so
extensive that repairs were not possible).

Does this have anything to do with the macros? Or, is there any other reason
why excel does this - is there any way to determine why it might do this so
that I can stop it from happening again?
