Excel file crash-help

I have an Excel file created within the Windows 95
operating system on one machine. However, when I open
this file and work with it in Windows XP, it continually
crashes after becoming corrupted.

Is this simply a matter of saving the old file with a
new "save as type" designation or is there another
approach I'm missing. Thanks.
