Excel file crash on one machine, but not other

An excel file is crashing on one machine and not another. I have tried
removing the macros, each tab and it will only pull up if all of the tabs are
gone, save a new blank sheet.

The first machine is operating Excel 2002 (10.6789.6735) SP3
The second is on Excel 2002. It did not have SP3 or the associated security
patches. These were installed one by one with the necessary reboots each
time. Now excel will not open at all. It has an error each time and just
cycles.

Error Message is:
Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvienence.
