Excel File recovery

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

It would be really great if MS could add a file recovery option in their software, when files get damaged. I spent quite a bit of time looking for a solution how to open/recover a damaged file. The file was encrypted.

I guess I got lucky when I just changed the extension from xlsx to xls and viola the file opened aftr I entered my password.

Unfortunately you aren't communicating with MS here & the users in the
newsgroups have nothing to do with the company's software development.

Use Help> Send Feedback from the application menu.

Mac Excel SP2 added partial recovery feature, and a lot files that used to be corrupted now open fine.

xlsx and xls have entirely different file formats: xlsx is saved in OpenXML while xls is saved in binary. Changing the file's post-fix won't usually help - I kind of think your corrupted workbook was originally an xls workbook.
