I have a number of older Excel spreadsheets that I backed up onto a memory stick. I wanted to check out one of those spreadsheets and when I opened the folders, the smaller spreadsheets show up as Excel files and open just fine. The larger multi-page spreadsheets have a different appearance and will not open using Excel. Doing a get info, I see the file format is called Unix Executable Files. Clicking it launches Terminal, but does not open the file. I tried adding the XLS suffix, and Excel launches with a double-click, but the file cannot be opened.
What caused this and how can I fix it?
