Using a MacBook netwrked to a G5 that we use as a server I am unable to pen Excel files directly from the server. The error message says:" 'File Name' cannot be accessed. The file may be read only, or you may be trying to access a read only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding. " But I can copy the file to my desktop and then open it. I can open Word documents from the same folders. I get the same error message when I try to save Excel documents back to the server from within Excel but when I copy them from the Finder all is well. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have the same problem and only with Excel files. It is a problem in the user info on the computer you accessing FROM. I tried setting up a new user and it does NOT have this problem. I also can access the files from all other computers. I do not know what is corrupted or set wrong. You might try setting up a new user and transferring files and info from old user. Be careful as you may transfer the problem (such as a corrupted preference file.)
