excel files I sent from mac opening funny on windows

I have been trying to send an excel file that I created with excel 2004
on my mac running 10.4.6 to my coworkers running windows 2000 using
excel 2003. Each time I send it to them, the top of the window gets
"cut off" - basically, it's further up than you can see so it's blocked
by the menu toolbars. On my mac, it's maximized so that everything
fits just right. Any ideas why this is happening?

I'm trying to save the file as not maximized and sending it, hoping
that will resolve the problem, but I think my coworkers are getting a
bit frustrated.

Hi Jim,

That's really weird. A couple thoughts come to mind. First, have your
co-workers installed the updates for Office for Windows?

Second, perhaps their toolbars and menus are not docked.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I believe they have installed the updates for Office for Windows.
I also checked, and the toolbars are docked.

The one thing I can determine is that it only happens when I save the
excel file with the sheet maximized. When I click the maximize button
again (so the window is smaller), they can see the top of the sheet
when they open the excel file.

Is there anything else I can do to determine the problem?

Thanks.

You might also want to be sure you're not running your Mac XL stuff at
super-dooper high resolution. When Windows users get
these the sheets and books will oftentimes be larger that their screen can
handle.

Tis a thought ... I've seen it happen before

What email client are you using? - I assume you mean "send"ing by email.

If Mail, make sure to check the box in the attachment window for 'Windows
friendly attachments', if Entourage check the settings in
Entourage>Preferences>Compose. Try the Windows-specific Encode for: setting
& make sure there is a check in the box for Extensions. Other clients have
similar settings.

May help - dunno.

Mark,

That's actually a very good thought. I was using excel on my macbook
pro which runs at 1440x900. I wonder if the widescreen aspect is
causing the problems. I will try and send out from my other mac or
change the resolution on my mbp and see if the problem reoccurs.

Thanks for the idea.

I am using Mail.app and yes, I am checking "Windows friendly
attachments".

Thanks.
