Excel files open too slow with 32,000 rows

We have an excel file at work that has like 32,000 rows and it opens
real slow. Is there a way to compact the size and open it faster?
They are employee files of attendance. Please help. In Access there is
a compact command to shrink the file size and speed it up. Anything
similar ? BTW I hear other organization have sizes 10-200x bigger and
are much faster. How ?

I have a large file full of formulae. I found that copying the formulae
down each column again the spreadsheet loaded and re-calculated much
quicker. This spreadsheet gets sorted again and again. I can only assume
that recalculation is in a certain order which, when the cells are put in a
different order, makes the load / recalculate more difficult and, therefore,
longer.

I would be grateful if anyone could confirm this theory. I would like to
know out of idle curiosity if nothing else.

Regards.

Move it to Access?

I dont think other organizations have files with 320,000 rows since Excel only
has 64k (or there abouts) rows in each spread sheet.

You are very possibly moving toward spreadsheet corruption.
