excel fonts lose color when pasted in Word?

My excel fonts lose their color when I import a table into Word as a picture?
The fonts maintain their color when I paste as a bitmap but that does not
look as crisp as a picture paste. Both Word and Excel are ver. 2003 with the
SP3 pack installed. This just started happending - I've been using this
method for years! What the heck?
