I am a new MAC and Excel for MAC 2008 user. When I execute the Excel program, all of my excel spreadsheets open. I spend time up front closing all the open spreadsheets, to work on the one I really want, or start new one. I haven't seen a post on this, so wondered if this is a common problem and how to solve it.

Hi Fred;

It's only a "common problem" for those who have a folder specified in:

Excel> Preferences> General - At Startup, Open All Files In:_____

Go into the General Preferences, clear that entry & the problem will no
longer be so common :)

Try the following:

instead of clicking and immediately releasing dock icon. keep holding
down until context menu pops up then choose to open or if a document is
already open it will show up in context menu choose that and your back
at the document
