Excel Formula calculations

In a complex workbook, a simple formula on sheet 1 (='sheet2'!A3/1000) does
not show the correct number. A search does not find the number anywhere in
the workbook!
sheet2 A3 is a sumif formula referring to yet another sheet in the workbook
When I click F2 (edit cell) and hit enter, the correct number appears.
Does the Dividing by 1,000 make a difference?
Does using Accounting format make a difference?

What is in 'sheet2'!A3 ? What does this formula return? What number
cannot be found anywhere in the workbook? What version of Excel
(including sevice packs, if any).

Calculation should be set to Automatic, or else changes made elsewhwere
will not be reflected in this cell until you force a recalc (such as by
editing this cell). However, I interpret your most recent reply to mean
that the problem persists even when Automatic is selected at
Tools|Options|Calculation. There were some recalculation issues with
early Excel 97, that were fixed by a service pack, but otherwise I know
of no documented instances of incorrect arithmetic.
