The formula bar in Excel 2008 for Mac is at the top of the screen, not
docked in the Excel window like it used to be in earlier versions.

Is there a way to dock it in
Excel 2008?

No. If you don't like this use send feedback from the help menu to tell
Microsoft.

Hi Richard;

No sarcasm but in all sincerity, what "earlier versions" would they be? I
don't recall the Formula Bar being docked ‹ by default or optionally ‹ in
any version of Mac Excel... Certainly not either of the versions for OS X.

That implementation is used in the Windows versions, however, where the
Formula Bar cannot be removed from the docked position within the
application window. Perhaps that's what you recall?

The Formula Bar can still be docked at the top of the screen by dragging it
up until it "snaps" into the docked position directly beneath the Menu Bar,
but that's no different than in previous Mac versions.

No sarcasm taken. I am now using MS Office 2008, when I upgraded I
believe that I skipped a version. I can't remember which I upgraded
from, but I remember the formula bar being part of the workbook not a
separate movable bar.

Doesn't anyone else remember that, or have I finally completely lost it?

All I know is that I too hate the way it is now, and I have indeed "Sent
Feedback" pleading with them to fid it.

I don't CARE how "Mac-like" and HUD-compliant this is, it is a PITA to use
all day :)

Cheers

To the best of my knowledge, the formula bar has never been a part of a
workbook window in any version of XL, Mac or Windows.

MacXL versions have always allowed the formula bar to dock at the edge
of the main window.

WinXL versions have always allowed the formula bar to dock at the edge
of the application window.
