excel formulas not working

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I'm trying to work on some excel files I received from PC but formulas seems NOT working properly (to be honest they do not make any kind of calculation until i click on the cell containing the formula). I'm new on Excel/Mac usage... please help me I'm wasting a lot of time.

Check in Excel> Preferences> Calculation... it sounds like the sheet has
been set for Manual. Change it to Automatic or use one of the other options
to recalculate on demand.

problem is now solved... and solution is unbelivable:
when I work with both Safari and excel formula do not work, whe i exit safari it works...
if somebody can understand why I would be very interested to know

no you where right... now it works, I still don't get why sometimes it was working and others not...
anyway many many thanks
