When you Force Quit, it will give you a "Send to Apple" message. Click
"Details" on that and copy it here so we can see what is happening.
Is it happening on All workbooks, or only one? What about if you create a
new blank workbook, does it still happen?
This problem is almost always caused by missing updates, so please tell us
explicitly the Version Number of Mac OS X and of Excel.

Every time I delete a letter or a word in excel the program freezes.
I have to restart computer and lose work.
I have all updates for mac and word.
