Excel Freezing on Powermac G5 using Microsoft Office:mac v.X

For some reason my MAC when opening Excel freezes and says application
not responding and I need to force quit. I have tried absolutely
everything and unfortunately the office cannot afford any outside help
and it's doing my head in! Any suggestions??? Thanks very much,

Hard to even hazard a guess if you've already tried "absolutely
everything"...

Did applying the Office 10.1.9 update
(http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx) help?

Did XL start up when you held down the shift key?

When you deleted XL's preference files, was XL closed at the time (if
not, XL just wrote the bad prefs back to the new prefs files).

Do you have any files in your startup folder?

When you reinstalled Office, did you use the Remove Office application?

When you tried starting XL from a different OS X account on your
machine, did it work?
