Hi all- Simple question- I think- I tried opening up an
Excel document I saved on my PC on a different MAC
computer. Is there something I have to do- save it as
different file extension- I got an error message that said
the doc was a "read only file" but it wouldn't open at
all. Thanks a lot.

How did you transfer the file? Files should never be opened directly
from floppies, on either platform. If you emailed or downloaded the file
from a server, it should open fine, since WinXL97/00/02/03 and
MacXL98/01/v.X all have exactly the same file format.

Neither Macs nor Windows *need* extensions to open files, so changing
extensions won't help.

I'm assuming you didn't save the file as read-only or shared.

The only suggestion I have is to resave it from the PC.

I had this problem and solved it quite unusual: change the font used on the
PC!

After changing the font to Times the transfer was okay. Same file no "read
only" any more. Seems that the Arial font on PC and Mac side are using
different Font-IDs.

One of those esotheric solvable bugs, some people call it Vodoo....

Hope it solves the problem.
